Meet Steven Felix! ⚡️ Steven helps assemble our drivetrain and we wouldn’t be where we are without him 💪 When asked “In what ways do you feel like you are actively designing your future?” Steven said, “Being on this team. The whole car industry as a whole is moving to a fully electrified future, if our team can contribute even the smallest amount to the industry that would be a dream come true for everyone on the team. EV tech is ever advancing and evolving around us everyday, and we’re on the cutting edge of that. Being able to design my own part, making it ourselves and seeing it being used on a racecar to drive around is such a surreal feeling. What we do at Highlander Racing is not a 1 to 1 representation of the automotive industry; however, the latest and greatest technology tends to trickle down from the highest levels of motorsports to a car that an average consumer can purchase. While I don’t think I will make something that will disrupt the entire automotive industry, I definitely think I am being set up to be able to create something really noteworthy and something I can take pride in. Nowhere else would I have such an opportunity to try so many new things and be able to see what sticks. This weekend our team had our Critical Design Review where our team got valuable feedback from alumni and industry professionals which will be put towards improving our current designs. We've just concluded the 2nd Electric Competition that UCR attended. It was our team's first time returning to the competition since before the COVID-19 pandemic, and we were a completely new team, unsure of what to expect. The competition drew over 65 teams from all over the world, including North America, South America, and even one team from Singapore. We were pleased with our performance in the design competition, where we earned 50 out of 150 points. We also successfully completed the meticulous mechanical tech check, which involved closely following the rules. It required the collective effort of our entire team, as we realized during our initial encounter with mech tech that we had a lot of work ahead of us. This is the first time UCR has gotten an EV sticker! Participating in this competition has provided us with valuable insights for next year's event. It was incredibly exciting and enlightening for our team to connect with other schools that have faced similar challenges and thought processes as us. We learned a great deal and would like to express our gratitude to all our sponsors and administrators for their unwavering support that made it possible for us to participate, as well as all the teams willing to share their knowledge with us. Our HR23E is coming along! Racecar loading... HR23E is progressing steadily as we move toward completion. The chassis is in the final stages of welding, while our corners are being machined and will soon be ready for assembly. A-arms are also in the process of being welded, with bearings to be pressed in shortly. The accumulator is being manufactured, and our aerodynamics package will commence production tomorrow following the receipt of the last few components we were awaiting. Our VCU is currently being flashed and will soon be able to communicate via the CAN bus. In addition, our PCBS are nearing completion in Altium. So UCR will have a racecar soon!
